Smarter Balanced & Next Gen Science Assessments
Smarter Balanced Assessments
Hawaii State Assessment - Next Gen Science
The SBA ELA and Math exams and HSA-NGSS tests will be given to all 7th, 8th, and 11th-grade students in accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015.
The SBA exams will be administered during the DOE test window from February through May. The juniors will take the SBA during the second to the last week of the 3rd quarter. Most middle school students will take the SBA during the month of April, and the 8th science exams in May. Students will be scheduled according to grade level and will participate with their class. Any health and safety protocols in effect at that time will be adhered to strictly.
Parents are provided more information about the Smarter Balanced exams on the Starting Smarter website and in-depth resources at Resources for Students & Families on the HIDOE portal. All parents/guardians should have received their access codes to view their student results online.
If you did not receive an access code, please contact the Testing Center.

|7TH & 8TH GRADE ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS - APRIL 8 THROUGH APRIL 19.
|11th GRADE ENGLISH & MATH - MARCH 4 THROUGH APRIL 8
All middle school students will test with their teachers in the school testing labs.
They will have several class periods scheduled to complete their tests.
Juniors who were not able to test during their Alphabetical session will be scheduled for makeup testing on March 25, 27, or 28th. The state of Hawaii strongly suggests juniors take the SBA tests of proficiency as a measure of student performance and systems progress.
