The Easter Bunny is on campus and has the golden egg. Here are some clues to
finding the Easter Bunny... OPEN TO EVERYONE ON CAMPUS!!!
-Already graduated from High School, but not Kahuku High School, Doesn't live in the
Kahuku area, Has a few baby bunnies in their family, is authorized to drive a Semi-
Truck, dances hula, entered Brown Bags playing stand up bass, used to have a purple
car in High School, and been to Japan twice.
If you see anyone around campus today that fits that description make sure to say,
"HOPPY EASTER" to them and you may just get the GOLDEN EGG!!!

COLLEGE/CAREER WEEK QUESTION 4
Question: Do college graduates make more than high school graduates in most occasions?
Answer: Yes!
By far, one of the biggest advantages to going to college is that you’ll be qualified for more high
-paying jobs in most fields. While this doesn’t always hold true, college grads do, on average,
make a lot more money than workers who just have a high school diploma. In fact, according to
the U.S. Census Bureau, the annual salary average differences between educational levels is staggering:
High school drop outs: $18,734
High school graduates: $27,915
College grads (with a bachelor’s degree): $51,206
Advanced degree holders: $74,602
Remember, colleges are a way to extend learning. This could be through an apprenticeship program,
a specialized program such as cosmetology, a community college, or a university which would lead
to advanced degree. Whenever a person is skilled in a particular area, they are valued for that skill,
as anyone cannot apply for their job if they have not learned the particular skill or education.

APRIL IS EARTH MONTH!
Come out to volunteer and clean up our local beaches! Kokua Foundation will be
sponsoring a beach clean up at James Campbell Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, April
15 from 8:30-11 at mile marker 14. There is also a clean up at Kahuku Golf Course
Beach on Earth Day, April 22 from 8:45-12. Bring your family and your friends and
a reusable water bottle. Wear a Kahuku shirt and sun screen and make our community

SUMMER SCHOOL/CREDIT RECOVERY
Summer School will be held in A-building this summer for CREDIT RECOVERY only,..
for grades 7-12. If you failed a class in the past or you fail a class this school year,
pick up a registration form and more information from Mrs. Finai in A-105, your counselor
or from the front office counter...starting WEDNESDAY, April 5, 2017. $95 to register

GO BIG RED STATE HISTORY DAY PARTICIPANTS: GRADES 7-12!
When: This Saturday, April 15th from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Where: Windward Community College - Sign in at the Akoakoa Bldg.
What to Bring: Display Board, Documentary and Performance Projects: Please make
sure to bring four copies of your process paper and bibliography for judges.

- Documentary Projects: Please make sure to check your DVD's before the start
- of judging, a TV and DVD player will be provided for you. There will be NO
- internet provided. Optional: You may bring a copy of your documentary on a
- USB thumb drive as a BACK UP. You are also welcome to bring your own
- computer and projector if you prefer.
- Paper and Website projects: You do not need to bring anything to the fair, please
- just be present for your interview. Your project will be on display.

There are a couple of new and recent issues if your app is not working... Try these
things... If it cannot verify you as a user get on a computer and log in. You may
be asked to update your contact email or change your password. Remember, your
Kahuku Gmail will not work as an IC recovery email! No person outside of the Kahuku
Google system can email a student's gmail. If your app is asking for a district to search
for, type "Hawaii" as the district name and then select the only entry that pops up. Email

ATTENDANCE POLICY UPDATES:
Please encourage your child to attend school daily and be on time to every class.
Parents/Guardians will be notified via the Mass Messaging system if your child is
tardy or absent from a class. Parents/Guardians can monitor their child's daily
attendance through the online infinite Campus Parent Portal
Reminder:
To excuse an absence, a parent/guardian can submit a note to the Attendance Clerk
within three days upon your child's return to school. Please refer to the Red Book
for the list of reasons absences that can be excused. A request to extend the three
day timeline will need to be approved by your child's Vice Principal.
Amendment: Effective Feb. 27, 2017
Students will be required to attend one hour of after school detention for the third and
each subsequent verified unexcused absence for each class period missed. Detentions
not served will be treated as obligations. Parents/Guardians will be notified of
unexcused absences via the Mass Messaging system and the online Infinite Campus
Parent Portal. Students are responsible to keep track of detention hours that are not
serviced.
Chronic Absenteeism:
. Parent Contact: Parents/Guardians of a student who is absent for 15 days or more
will be contacted by school personnel via letter, phone, and/or home visit to discuss
the seriousness of the situation. A parent/guardian conference will be scheduled to
discuss further interventions including counseling, a Behavior Support Plan, and/or
an alternative placement to help improve student attendance.
. Family Court Intervention: Parents/Guardians of a student who is absent from
school for 20 days or more due to truancy may be referred by the school to the
State Attorney General's office for possible Family Court intervention.

STUDENT PRINTING
Starting this semester, teachers will not be allowing other students into their classes during
instructional time to print, even if you have a pass. Students can print in P-38 from
7:15 - 7:50am. and 2:30 -3:30pm. Also in room W-304 from 7:30 - 8:00 am and Recess.

PERSONAL ITEM DELIVERY
Due to the increasing amount of personal items delivered to students, unless it is deemed
an emergency, students will need to come to the front office to get their items during
recess or lunch. Instructional time will not be interrupted and school personnel will not
be utilized for the purpose of delivering personal items. - Admin
INFINITE CAMPUS APP
If you want easy access to yours or your students' grades on your phone, you can download
the Infinite Campus app on your phone. You must have previously set up your account on a
computer or tablet. Search for “Infinite Campus Mobile Portal” to download to your mobile
device. The Hawaii Department of Education District ID is RXCDMR.

STUDENT OFF CAMPUS PASS
Students leaving campus during the school day are required to have an official Student Pass.
To expedite the process of a student getting a Student Pass, parents/guardians are advised to
call the school at 305-7300 in the morning or send a note with your child and drop it off at
the front office before school starts. Without prior notice, the wait time to get a student
out of class will vary depending on the availability of staff. We do not call classrooms
during instructional time.
Please include the following information in the note for a Student Pass:
1. Date note was written
2. Child's legal name and grade level
3. Date and time to be released
4. Reason for early release
5. Current phone number
6. Parent/guardian signature
Students who are 18 years old may sign themselves out of school, however, parent/guardians
will be notified and students will need administrative approval to be allowed back on campus.
You will be asked to present identification when picking up your child. Students will only be
released to their parent/guardian documented in school records (this does not include
Emergency Card contacts). The Student Pass must be returned to the front office if the
student returns to school before the end of the day.

CAFETERIA DROP-OFF
The cafeteria gate will be open from 7:30 am-8:00am for student drop-off. This is a drop-off
area only--please do not park. For safety reasons, please drive slowly, look out for our
student bicyclists/pedestrians, and do not bypass the line of cars.

STUDENT ID AND LUNCH REMINDER
Students are required to have their school ID and have a balance on their lunch account to
purchase meals. If students have lost or misplaced their school ID they may purchase a
replacement ID card at Q1 for a fee of $1 during recess or lunch. If students do not have
money to purchase an replacement ID, an obligation slip will be given to them in their period
one class to take home to their parents/guardians. Please call 305-7394 if you do not want
your child to get a replacement ID.
