STUDENTS WHO RIDE THE SCHOOL BUS
Starting Monday, March 13th, department of transportation will be continuing repairs 
and renovations, on Kam Hwy, at the bus stop area fronting the school. Builders will be
laying asphalt in the driveway, and laying sod on the grassy area up to the fence line. 
Please be mindful of any barricades that will be put up, and stay out of the area until 
the barricades are removed. Estimated end time is March 29- Admin

CANCER AWARENSS DAY..
Thank you to all of your who are wearing your PINK to show your awareness of 
CANCER. Did you know that according to the National Cancer Society it is 
estimated that there will be 6,540 new cancer cases this year? get educated and
 know what to look for to catch symptoms early.   K. Kalama

SPRING AWARENESS WEEK... 
Join the Student Government as we bring awareness to issues that many people are facing
today. Tuesday- CANCER Awareness Wear PINK. Wednesday- SUICIDE Awareness- 
Wear BLACK, Thursday- AUTISM Awareness- Wear BLUE. Friday- RANDOM ACTS 
OF KINDNESS DAY- Wear Green. This day we will spend time trying to do things for 
others and think of how they feel first. As you walk around school look for things to do 
for your teachers, your friends or anyone that you see throughout the day, without thinking

BAND CONCERT MAHALO'S 
All the Kahuku Bands did a great job at their concert last Saturday night. Nothing 
but compliments are pouring in. Special Mahalo to Mrs. Lindsey for attending and 
whomever was responsible for advertising the concert on the school's marquee.

PROJECT GRAD 17 DOMINOS PIZZA NIGHT
A Dough Raiser Opportunity. Join us at Domino's Hau'ula, Weds, March 15th, Karaoke,
Fun, Excitement and Raffles will be happening at Domino's Hauula. Seniors are 
encouraged to please come out to hold and wave signs anytime from 3pm - 9pm

VIDEO ESSAY CONTEST 
The most exciting part of Natural High’s year is now here! We have officially 
launched our 2017 Video & Essay Contest from March 1st - April 30th! Submit
an original video or essay to Natural High and answer the following questions:

1) Why do you choose a Natural High over an artificial High?
2) How has living naturally high impacted you the most?
3) Identify your Natural High. “My name is ___ and my Natural High is ____.”

The top 4 entries win $250! The grand prize winner will receive an all-expense paid 

trip to San Diego, CA to attend our annual Gala and the chance to be apart of our next

SPRING BREAK SAT PREPARATION AT KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL

A course will be offered over Spring Break here at Kahuku High School. Please see or

POLYNESIAN FOOTBALL CLASSIC  
Kahuku High School has been provided an exciting opportunity to play in the Inaugural 
Polynesian Football Classic, to be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Las Vegas, 
Nevada. This platform will provide additional exposure for our outstanding student-
athletes, thus creating new opportunities for college scholarships. We are pleased that 
the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame is the official charitable partner of the Polynesian
Football Classic.

ATTENDANCE POLICY UPDATES: 
Please encourage your child to attend school daily and be on time to every class. 
Parents/Guardians will be notified via the Mass Messaging system if your child is 
tardy or absent from a class. Parents/Guardians can monitor their child's daily 
attendance through the online infinite Campus Parent Portal

Reminder: 
To excuse an absence, a parent/guardian can submit a note to the Attendance Clerk
within three days upon your child's return to school. Please refer to the Red Book 
for the list of reasons absences that can be excused.  A request to extend the three
day timeline will need to be approved by your child's Vice Principal. 

Amendment: Effective Feb. 27, 2017
Students will be required to attend one hour of after school detention for the third and
each subsequent verified unexcused absence for each class period missed.  Detentions 
not served will be treated as obligations.  Parents/Guardians will be notified of
unexcused absences via the Mass Messaging system and the online Infinite Campus 
Parent Portal. Students are responsible to keep track of detention hours that are not 
serviced. 

Chronic Absenteeism:
 Parent Contact: Parents/Guardians of a student who is absent for 15 days or more
will be contacted by school personnel via letter, phone, and/or home visit to discuss 
the seriousness of the situation. A parent/guardian conference will be scheduled to 
discuss further interventions including counseling, a Behavior Support Plan, and/or 
an alternative placement to help improve student attendance. 
.  Family Court Intervention: Parents/Guardians of a student who is absent from 
school for 20 days or more due to truancy may be referred by the school to the 
State Attorney General's office for possible Family Court intervention.

MEAL/LUNCH RECEIPTS REQUEST
Receipt for deposits will be available only upon request. Please come to the front office
and see Dee Dee to obtain a receipt.  You may also view your deposits online by 
setting up an account on the new SchoolCafe system. For information on how to set-up 
this account please go to:  www.kahukuhigh.org. A mobile app for iphone, Android 
and Windows is available as well. Payments can still be made using the envelopes in the

STUDENT PRINTING
Starting this semester, teachers will not be allowing other students into their classes during 
instructional time to print, even if you have a pass. Students can print in P-38 from 
7:15 - 7:50am. and 2:30 -3:30pm. Also in room W-304 from 7:30 - 8:00 am and Recess.

PERSONAL ITEM DELIVERY
Due to the increasing amount of personal items delivered to students, unless it is deemed
an emergency, students will need to come to the front office to get their items during 
recess or lunch. Instructional time will not be interrupted and school personnel will not
be utilized for the purpose of delivering personal items.                   - Admin

INFINITE CAMPUS APP 
If you want easy access to yours or your students' grades on your phone, you can download
the Infinite Campus app on your phone. You must have previously set up your account on a
computer or tablet. Search for “Infinite Campus Mobile Portal” to download to your mobile
device. The Hawaii Department of Education District ID is RXCDMR.

STUDENT OFF CAMPUS PASS
Students leaving campus during the school day are required to have an official Student Pass.
To expedite the process of a student getting a Student Pass, parents/guardians are advised to
call the school at 305-7300 in the morning or send a note with your child and drop it off at
the front office before school starts. Without prior notice, the wait time to get a student 
out of class will vary depending on the availability of staff. We do not call classrooms 
during instructional time. 

Please include the following information in the note for a Student Pass:
1. Date note was written
2. Child's legal name and grade level 
3. Date and time to be released
4. Reason for early release
5. Current phone number
6. Parent/guardian signature

Students who are 18 years old may sign themselves out of school, however, parent/guardians 
will be notified and students will need administrative approval to be allowed back on campus.
You will be asked to present identification when picking up your child. Students will only be
released to their parent/guardian documented in school records (this does not include 
Emergency Card contacts). The Student Pass must be returned to the front office if the 
student returns to school before the end of the day.

CAFETERIA DROP-OFF
The cafeteria gate will be open from 7:30 am-8:00am for student drop-off.  This is a drop-off
area only--please do not park.  For safety reasons, please drive slowly, look out for our 
student bicyclists/pedestrians, and do not bypass the line of cars.

STUDENT ID AND LUNCH REMINDER 
Students are required to have their school ID and have a balance on their lunch account to 
purchase meals. If students have lost or misplaced their school ID they may purchase a 
replacement ID card at Q1 for a fee of $1 during recess or lunch. If students do not have 
money to purchase an replacement ID, an obligation slip will be given to them in their period
one class to take home to their parents/guardians. Please call 305-7394 if you do not want
 your child to get a replacement ID.

PARENT OPPORTUNITY
Please join the School Community Council. It's a great opportunity for parents
to express opinions and share ideas as well as stay up to date on what's happening at 
school. The SSC meets just once a month in the evening and refreshments are always
provided. We have some vacancies on the board that need to be filled. Please email
